Chris Ofili: Requiem

Chris Ofili's north-staircase mural reflects on loss, spirituality and transformation while remembering artist Khadija Saye and the Grenfell Tower fire.

Tate commissioned Ofili to paint directly onto the north-staircase walls. The three-part mural moves from a witness presenting the burning tower, through an image of Khadija Saye at its centre, to a hopeful landscape. Water connects the scenes as a reflection on collective grief and transformation.
