Jailbirds of Old London (Halloween)

A theatrical walk exploring four women criminals of nineteenth and early twentieth-century London and the treatment of women by the justice system.

The walk examines a criminal mastermind, domestic servant, foster carer and courtesan through storytelling and dramatic re-enactment. It considers class, race and attitudes towards female criminals. There are no rest stops and stretches may involve seventeen minutes of walking. Themes include abuse, violence and interpretations of executions.
