BBC SSO 2026/27: Brahms’ Second Symphony

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra performs Schumann, the world premiere of Matthew Kaner's Violin Concerto and Brahms's Second Symphony at City Halls.

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Chief Conductor Ryan Wigglesworth, opens with Schumann's Overture, Scherzo and Finale, then gives the world premiere of Matthew Kaner's Violin Concerto, a BBC commission written for soloist Benjamin Baker. After the interval, the programme closes with Brahms's Second Symphony, composed during a holiday in the Austrian Alps. The concert lasts roughly an evening with an interval and is part of the orchestra's 2026/27 season.
