About
Olivia Jia’s debut solo show at The Approach uses paintings and archival imagery to consider memory, identity and histories of Chinese gardens.
The gallery’s release describes paintings that draw on museum collections, online images and family photographs to form a personal account shaped by Chinese-American identity. The work brings together references to Chinese gardens, historical objects and invented material while retaining the uncertainty between memory and imagination.
