Lord Mansfield: Slavery and Justice Guided Tour at Kenwood
About
A free volunteer-led tour at Kenwood on William Murray, Lord Mansfield, and his role in the abolition of slavery in England.
The tour centres on Lord Mansfield, Lord Chief Justice of England and owner of Kenwood, and one of his most important rulings, the James Somerset case. It also charts the rise of the abolition movement through the eighteenth century and discusses London's black community, some of its extraordinary characters, the lives they led and the difficulties they faced. English Heritage states the tour runs only on the selected dates, begins at the front of the house under the portico, and asks participants to meet there at 10.25am. Groups larger than five are asked to email the property in advance.
