Music Workshop by Alf Steward

Cellist Alf Steward leads a workshop on stringed instruments, playing varied cello pieces and joined by guitar maker Stuart Houghton demonstrating instrument-making.

This open workshop, aimed especially at young people interested in music, showcases the magic of stringed instruments, their music and how they are made. Local cellist Alf Steward, formerly leader of the Hereford Youth Orchestra and now studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, plays a variety of pieces illustrating the genres suited to the cello, with opportunities to discuss his musical journey and share insights. He is then joined by acoustic guitar maker Stuart Houghton, who gives an illustrated talk and demonstration on the craft of making classical stringed instruments.
