About

Author Somnath Batabyal joins singers and instrumentalists for a performance of readings and music connected with the novel Red River.

The concert pairs readings from Somnath Batabyal’s novel Red River with Bengali boat songs, Assamese festival and lower-Assam folk songs, tea-garden songs, and songs of liberation from 1971. Sahana Bajpaie and Sohini Alam sing with Urvi Sharma, accompanied by Ben Heartland (double bass), Himanish Goswami (percussion) and Olly Weeks (guitar and new arrangements). Professor Laura Hammond gives opening remarks, followed by a Q&A between Rohit Dasgupta and Batabyal.
