English Youth Ballet presents the full-length classical ballet Coppélia, the comic tale of Franz, who falls in love with a life-like doll created by the eccentric inventor Dr Coppelius, and his jealous lover Swanhilda's adventure into the inventor's house. Performances feature six professional principal dancers sharing the stage with up to 100 selected young dancers aged 8–18 from the local area. The company, now in its 29th year, is known for large-scale, dramatic productions of the famous classical ballets.
