About

Maxwell Craven discusses the Roman Saxon Shore forts along Britain’s southern and eastern coasts, their origins and later histories.

The talk follows the Saxon Shore forts from Portchester to Brancaster, exploring their origins, coastal settings, defensive and supply roles, and what happened to them in later centuries. It draws on Seeking the Saxon Shore, the 2017 journey by Max and Carole Craven that informed the book.
