About

A hybrid day symposium marking 35 years of Kazakh independence, with three panels on history, politics and economics, and natural and cultural heritage.

Held in partnership with the British Embassy in Astana and sponsored by the Caspian Policy Center, this symposium is part of the RSAA's Central Asia 35 anniversary series. It examines what kind of country Kazakhstan has become since independence, moving from imperial and Soviet legacies and decolonisation, through political reform and economic ambitions, to the nation's landscapes, biodiversity and cultural heritage. The day comprises three panel sessions and aims to strengthen academic, cultural and policy ties between the UK and Kazakhstan.
