Hymns to Mother Earth
About
An evening of live traditional and devotional songs from Eastern Europe and the Middle East at the Goddess Hall in Glastonbury.
Kostantis Kourmadias, Laura Shannon and special guest Heloise Pilkington perform ancient traditional songs from Eastern Europe and the Middle East alongside original compositions, including Christian, Jewish and Muslim love songs heard as mystic poems honouring the earth. Kostantis plays the Byzantine saz, a long-necked lute tuned to ancient microtonal modes, while Laura brings expertise in Balkan and Near Eastern dance and rhythm and Heloise offers her sound-priestess singing. The two-hour concert aims to celebrate shared musical and spiritual traditions of East and West.
