Niovi Kafantari, The Necessary Other

Niovi Kafantari’s paintings explore how identity forms through encounters with others, using intertwined figures and gestures to hold intimacy, vulnerability and ambiguity in tension.

This first London solo exhibition brings together new paintings in which figures lean, embrace, support or resist one another. Kafantari draws on archaeology, cinema, theatre, literature and art history, reshaping those references into scenes that leave the meaning of each encounter open.
