Jim Amaral: A Study of Five Decades
About
An exhibition of works on paper by Colombia-based artist Jim Amaral spanning the 1960s to the 2010s, at LAMB's Mayfair gallery.
LAMB presents Jim Amaral: A Study of Five Decades, an exhibition of works on paper by the California-born, Bogotá-based artist, running alongside the gallery's Frieze Masters Spotlight presentation of his Invisible Flowers series. The show traces Amaral's drawing practice across five decades, from the black-and-white psychoanalytic drawings of the 1960s through the Love Letter drawings of the 1970s, the Incubus and Succubus series of the 1990s, and the vivid Per-se watercolours of the 2000s. His fantastical imagery — hybrid plants, anatomical fragments and zoomorphic figures — explores the body, the subconscious, desire and human connection, informed by surrealism and Jungian psychoanalysis.
