Outer Defences | Fort Nelson Tour

A 90-minute guided tour exploring Fort Nelson's vast defensive ditch and outer fortifications, led by the Royal Armouries.

This special guided tour takes visitors beyond Fort Nelson's walls and down into the vast ditch that served as the fort's first line of defence. Participants learn how the ditch was created and its role in defending the fort, along with the walls and defensive features within, gaining insight into the engineering and labour behind the stronghold. Tours last 90 minutes, are limited to 16 people, are suitable for ages 12+, and involve uneven ground, steep slopes and outdoor walking, so sturdy footwear is required. The tour route is not accessible.
