Black Joy

A Guyanese immigrant arrives in Brixton and becomes entangled with streetwise characters, including a young boy whose family draws him into their circle.

Anthony Simmons’s comic drama follows Ben from his arrival in Brixton into Devon’s charismatic family circle. The BFI also frames the film around the social and financial pressures facing Black Britons. The season brings independent films together with filmmaker conversations and an industry discussion about the visibility of Black, African and diaspora cinema.
