About
Maria De Vido’s Side Chapel exhibition uses red silhouettes against a blue sea to reflect the courage, loss and resilience of women fleeing Ethiopia and Eritrea across the Mediterranean.
The exhibition considers the grief and resilience of women making dangerous sea crossings from Ethiopia and Eritrea. Red silhouettes against a deep blue sea evoke displacement, erased identities, memory and the search for dignity. The artist describes the work as a reflection on women’s empowerment and the emotional force of colour.
