Touki Bouki (Journey of the Hyena)

Mory and Anta dream of leaving Dakar for Paris, setting out on a motorcycle marked by a zebu skull and meeting practical and personal obstacles.

Djibril Diop Mambéty’s film follows young lovers Mory and Anta as they imagine an escape from Dakar to Paris. Their journey begins on Mory’s motorcycle, mounted with a zebu skull, and unfolds through practical and mystical obstacles. The BFI identifies the film as Touki Bouki (1973); the saved API catalogue title is Journey of the Hyena. Both BFI screenings are labelled as subtitled in the cache.
