Pop Art Gallery
About
A display of iconic Pop Art works from Wolverhampton Art Gallery's significant collection, including Warhol, Lichtenstein, Blake and Hockney.
This long-running display showcases the gallery's Pop Art collection, one of the largest and most significant in the UK, built up by curator David Rodgers between 1969 and 1981. It features works by leading British and American artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Peter Blake, Jann Haworth, James Rosenquist, Andy Warhol and David Hockney, alongside recent acquisitions by Sue Dunkley and Erica Rutherford. The display explores the movement's roots in 1950s popular culture, mass production and celebrity imagery, from the Independent Group in London to Warhol's Factory in New York.
