Michael Tippett - A Child of Our Time
About
Goldsmiths Choral Union and Affinity Orchestra perform Tippett's A Child of Our Time with works by Price, Finzi and Vaughan Williams at Cadogan Hall.
Goldsmiths Choral Union performs Michael Tippett's celebrated oratorio A Child of Our Time, written in response to Kristallnacht and structured like Handel's Messiah but with spirituals in place of chorales. The programme also includes Florence Price's Concert Overture No 1, Finzi's Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice and Vaughan Williams's The Vagabond, sung by Sir Willard White. The concert is framed around themes of war, oppression and hope, with soloists Henna Munn, Rosamond Thomas, Peter Davoren and Sir Willard White, conducted by Jack Apperley.
