There is Nothing Simple About Henri Rousseau
About
Art historian Christopher Green lectures on Henri Rousseau, drawing on his recent Paris exhibition and new conservation research.
Christopher Green, Emeritus Professor at the Courtauld Institute of Art and co-curator of the recent Rousseau exhibition at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris, gives an evening lecture on the painter known as 'Le Douanier'. He draws on findings from curating the show and new conservation research in Paris and Philadelphia to explore what is known — and what may never be known — about Rousseau and his paintings. The talk asks just how simple Rousseau really was as a man and a painter, questioning the 'naïf' label often applied to him.
