Lubomyr Melnyk: Continuous Piano in Concert

Ukrainian 'continuous piano' pioneer Lubomyr Melnyk performs an immersive solo concert at Downing College, with the audience seated around the piano.

Lubomyr Melnyk, the Ukrainian exponent of 'continuous piano', gives a one-night concert at Downing College. His style draws on Indian classical music's rhythmic virtuosity, 'emergent sounds' and the stretching of time to draw out intervals and overtones, creating cumulative rather than repetitive music. The audience is seated around the piano for an immersive experience, and the event is followed by refreshments. Doors open at 7:15 PM and the performance lasts around two hours.
