Opéra de Paris: Notre Dame de Paris

A screening of the Paris Opera Ballet's Notre Dame de Paris, Roland Petit's ballet based on Victor Hugo's novel.

This screening presents Roland Petit's ballet Notre Dame de Paris, created for the Paris Opera from Victor Hugo's novel. The tragic story follows Esmeralda in love with Captain Phoebus, Frollo tormented by his desire, and the hunchback Quasimodo, unfolding against a medieval backdrop. Petit combined neoclassical dance with the spirit of music hall, with music by Maurice Jarre, sets by René Allio and costumes by Yves Saint Laurent, which he wanted to be as colourful as the stained glass windows of a cathedral.
