About

A free exhibition at the Rail Heritage Centre exploring how railways popularised Doncaster's Leger Festival, focusing on the tragedies and scandal of 1887 and 1890.

Marking the 250th running of the St Leger classic race, this exhibition examines the role the railways played in popularising the Leger Festival in Doncaster. It concentrates on two years in particular, 1887 and 1890, when events during the festival led to tragedy and a scandal. The display runs at the Rail Heritage Centre from 12 September to 10 December 2026.
