Middlesex Hospital Blues
About
An immersive exhibition curated by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard combines sound, mirrored sculpture and blue light to explore Derek Jarman’s legacy and the Middlesex Hospital’s history of HIV/AIDS care.
The exhibition includes an ambisonic composition by Simon Fisher Turner with Tilda Swinton’s recorded voice, a mirrored installation by Jenkin van Zyl and Derek Jarman’s 1981 painting The Spirit of the World. Arup supplies the spatial sound array and lighting design. It responds to Jarman’s film Blue without screening the film and is the final part of Forsyth and Pollard’s chapel trilogy. Entry is free without booking. Opening hours are Monday–Wednesday and Friday–Saturday 11am–6pm, Thursday 11am–8pm and Sunday noon–5pm. The chapel has a wheelchair lift, ramp and accessible toilet.
