“20th Century Ireland: Lives Make History Here”-Lecture Series

A lecture by Tony Corcoran on Eoin O'Duffy, from IRA commander and Garda chief to founder of Ireland's Blueshirt fascist movement.

This session of the Tyneside Irish Cultural Society's lecture series examines Eoin O'Duffy (1890–1944), led by Tony Corcoran. O'Duffy fought with the IRA in the war of independence in his native Co. Monaghan and rose to be a deputy to Michael Collins. He founded and commanded An Garda Síochána before being dismissed by De Valera in 1933, after which he organised the "Blueshirts", described here as Ireland's authentic fascist party. The talk runs for one hour at the Tyneside Irish Centre.
