Gaudí: Little Lies, Big Legacy with John Carlin – Annual Lecture with Instituto Cervantes
About
Journalist John Carlin delivers the BritishSpanish Society's joint Annual Lecture with Instituto Cervantes marking the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death.
The joint Annual Lecture with Instituto Cervantes London marks the centenary of the death of Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926). John Carlin explores how little is known with certainty about Gaudí the man — dubious quotations, a questionable New York skyscraper project, canonisation credentials and even his birthplace — while his liberated imagination broke architectural orthodoxies and influenced Catalan figures such as Dalí, Miró and Adrià. The lecture also considers Gaudí's role in Barcelona's transformation into one of Europe's most liveable cities. The event is in English.
