About

A free library talk by Bernard Nevin about Margery Booth, the Southport opera singer who spied for British Intelligence in wartime Germany.

Bernard Nevin gives a talk on Margery Booth, an English opera star of the 1930s born in Wigan who moved to Southport and later sang at the Berlin Opera after marrying a German industrialist. She became involved with British Intelligence, passing secrets hidden in her underwear, earning her the post-war media nickname "The Knickers Spy", and fell under Gestapo suspicion, being arrested, tortured and later released. The session runs for one hour in the library's meeting room and is aimed at adults.
