About
Two impoverished tenant farmers in 1940s Taiwan hope to earn a reward after taking an unexploded bomb to the Japanese authorities, but their plan spirals into absurdity.
Wang Toon’s film follows two tenant farmers and their family as the war nears its end in 1940s Taiwan. When an unexploded American bomb lands in their field, they carry it to the Japanese authorities in hopes of a reward. The decision exposes the indignities and ironies of life under occupation. The Garden Cinema lists this 7 November screening in its Made in Taiwan season; the separate 25 November screening is the one specifically announced with an introduction by Professor Chris Berry.
