Looking the World in the Face
About
A free photography exhibition at Canada House Gallery celebrating Indigenous and racialized Canadian artists, running from October 2026 to May 2027.
This exhibition honours the contributions of Indigenous and racialized artists to the visual culture of Canada through photographic works focused on faces. It shows how historically marginalized communities defy the dominant gaze by telling their stories and disrupting stereotypes, presenting themselves in unvarnished, critical and creative ways. The artworks are drawn from the Canada Council Art Bank and the exhibition was first mounted in Ottawa in 2022 to mark the Art Bank's 50th anniversary. It is presented in partnership with the Canada Council for the Arts.
