The History of the Female Vampire - Talks in the Pub

Dr Sarah Gamble presents The History of the Female Vampire - Talks in the Pub, exploring the figure from ancient demons to modern feminist and queer fiction.

Dr Sarah Gamble, Associate Professor in English Literature at Swansea University, traces the history of the female vampire. She explores the figure from ancient demons like Lilith and the countess Elizabeth Bathory through classic Gothic novels such as Carmilla and Dracula. The talk examines how modern feminist and queer writers have transformed the vampire into a symbol of freedom and female desire, citing works like Lucy Undying and A Dowry of Blood.
