Winter Warmers – Meanwood Valley Stompers
About
An afternoon of folk, blues and early jazz guitar and harmonica from the Meanwood Valley Stompers in Seven Bar, on a pay-what-you-feel basis.
The Meanwood Valley Stompers play a two-hour set in Seven Bar as part of the Winter Warmers series, organised by MEWL Music. David's repertoire draws on American folk and blues guitar traditions, from the rags of Blind Blake and Reverend Gary Davis to the delta blues of Robert Johnson and Charley Patton, alongside country blues harmonica in the style of Sonny Boy Williamson I and Sonny Terry. His engagement with the Lindy Hop scene brings early jazz and swing standards with a rural quality, plus bluegrass numbers, reworked traditional songs and originals nodding to the rootsy side of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Townes Van Zandt.
