Kirsty Bell for Mother's Mother
About
Author Kirsty Bell visits Topping & Company Booksellers in York to discuss her hybrid memoir Mother's Mother, tracing matriarchal inheritance across generations.
Kirsty Bell joins Topping & Company Booksellers in York to present Mother's Mother, a hybrid memoir of matriarchal inheritance that begins with a peony bush passed down through generations of women in her family. Realising she is the final woman in her maternal line, Bell traces her grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother in the Scottish Lowlands across a century and a half, weaving personal narrative with social history, archival traces and literary forebears from Mary Shelley to Muriel Spark. The book meditates on the regulation of women's bodies and the silencing of their voices across generations. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
