Under the Skin

An exhibition at Dr Jenner's House exploring the history of vaccine confidence, resistance and public trust from Jenner's cowpox vaccine to today.

Under the Skin: A Complicated History of Vaccine Confidence is Dr Jenner's House's 2026 season exhibition, blending art, science and history. It traces debates around vaccination from Jenner's cowpox vaccine to the present day, examining how fear, lived experience, misinformation, inequality and institutional trust have shaped public responses. The exhibition encourages visitors to look beyond simple divisions and consider what can be learned by listening to one another with curiosity and humanity.
