About

An exhibition of vibrant West African Asafo flags from collector Karun Thakar's collection, displayed throughout Dyrham Park's house to explore themes of migration, trade and colonial history.

The National Trust is partnering with textile collector and curator Karun Thakar to display Asafo flags, one of the most important textile art forms to emerge from West Africa, at three sites including Dyrham Park. 'Journeys' draws on highlights from Thakar's global collections to explore themes of migration, trade, craftsmanship, colonialism, global history and beauty. The flags fuse European naval insignia with local traditions and symbolism, and are displayed throughout Dyrham's interiors alongside portraits and objects, deepening narratives of 17th-century global trade and colonial history embedded in the house. The exhibition is open daily from 11:30am to 4:00pm during normal visiting hours.
