About

First session of a reading group devoted to Carlo Ginzburg's scholarship, discussing his seminal writings on microhistory.

This is the opening meeting of the Carlo Ginzburg Reading Group, a four-session series running across Michaelmas 2026 and Hilary 2027 dedicated to the work of the historian Carlo Ginzburg (1939–2026), renowned for The Cheese and the Worms and other classics of microhistory. This first session focuses on his seminal works on microhistory, with later meetings covering witchcraft studies, the foundations of historical knowledge, and popular culture. Participants discuss a selection of Ginzburg's writings from the early 1960s onwards; those interested in joining are asked to contact the organisers by email.
