A Friends of Malton Museum lecture by Ron Pickering on the building of the Mombasa to Lake Victoria railway.
Ron Pickering tells the story of 'The Lunatic Express', the railway the British built from Mombasa to Lake Victoria without a map. Engineers, soldiers and poorly-equipped labourers overcame drought, tsetse flies, malarial swamps, hostile tribes and man-eating lions to construct a line that defined a nation. The lecture starts at 7.30pm and guests are welcome.
