About

A Barbican retrospective of over 60 white-paint, square-format paintings by American artist Robert Ryman, running from October 2026 to February 2027.

This major retrospective presents more than 60 works by the American artist Robert Ryman, made from the mid-1950s to the early 2010s. Ryman's paintings, mostly using white paint in a square format, reward close attention to texture, brushstrokes, support and display, and how they interact with light and space. The exhibition invites visitors to slow down and experience the paintings in person, as the artist insisted was the only way to see them.
