Bookclub // Motherhood Between Theory & Fiction
About
A monthly in-person critical reading group in Worthing pairing fiction and theory on motherhood, this session reading Rachel Cusk's A Life's Work alongside Rachel Yonder's Nightbitch.
The Madre Project runs a monthly critical reading group exploring motherhood, reproduction, care, labour and identity through dual reading, pairing fiction with critical theory, philosophy, memoir or cultural criticism. The fourth session reads Rachel Cusk's A Life's Work alongside Rachel Yonder's Nightbitch, asking how love and loss can be held together, what ambivalence about motherhood means, and whether the maternal experience changes us irreversibly. The session runs 90 minutes, with doors at 7 PM, and is led by Sandy, founder of The Madre Project and a philosophy lecturer at the University of Chichester. An online session on the following day is listed separately for those who cannot attend in person.
