RNCM Research Forum: Reviving Past Sounds
About
A free RNCM research panel on reviving historic music, followed by an album launch performance by Baroque in the North featuring the eighteenth-century musette.
RNCM researchers discuss how long-unheard musical works are rediscovered, edited and brought to the modern stage, from uncovering historical sources to the creative decisions behind performing fragile materials. The panel concludes with a performance of Anne-Marie O'Farrell's transcription of J.S. Bach's Chromatic Fantasy BWV 903 for lever harp. Afterwards, chamber ensemble Baroque in the North launches their new album Friends in High Places, played on original instruments with works by Boismortier, Naudot, Dupuits, Chédeville, Dugué, Braun and Dornel, showcasing the musette, an eighteenth-century bagpipe.
