Lewis Hammond: Crystal in the Shade
About
The first UK museum exhibition of Lewis Hammond, presenting a new body of paintings exploring themes of home and belonging.
Lewis Hammond's Crystal in the Shade marks the artist's first museum presentation in the UK, featuring a new body of paintings created specifically for The Hepworth Wakefield. Hammond's dark-toned oil paintings interweave mythological elements with contemporary themes, drawing inspiration from Old Masters such as Caravaggio, Velázquez and Goya. The exhibition explores the theme of home and what defines a place of belonging, serving as both a homecoming for the Berlin-based artist and a reflection on disconnection and ways of coming together.
