LectureTalks
The Practices and Politics of Film Subtitles
Price
Free
Free public lecture; in-person registration required.
About
Ranita Chatterjee examines subtitles, multilingual sound and the international circulation of cinema.
The lecture considers how the arrival of spoken dialogue changed the movement of films between audiences, and how subtitling intersects with film language, aesthetics and translation. This is a public lecture, not a film screening. Free physical attendance requires registration; a separate online viewing option does not replace the published London lecture. The declared one-hour interval is explicit in the official native feed and linked current booking, not inferred from a typical lecture duration.
