African Singing Workshop for People of Colour w/ Suntou Susso + Fran André

A one-off singing workshop for people of colour, led by Suntou Susso and Fran André, exploring African diaspora songs and Mandinka Griot traditions.

This three-hour workshop offers a space for people of colour in Totnes and the surrounding areas to gather and sing together, with no prior singing experience needed. Fran André opens with a warm-up and teaches simple songs from the African diaspora by ear, before Suntou Susso shares his Griot culture, showcasing the kora and teaching traditional Mandinka songs with live percussion accompaniment. Participants are also invited to join Suntou Susso & the Gambian Superstars on stage at the Barrelhouse Ballroom on 6 November as part of the band's UK album tour, with the workshop ticket including a place at that show.
