About

A talk exploring the history and tradition of Christmas ghost tales from the Middle Ages to the modern era.

Kirsty Hartsiotis discusses the long history of supernatural tales told at midwinter, tracing them back to the Middle Ages and the age of Shakespeare and Marlowe. The talk explores the tradition of ghost tales during the 17th and 18th centuries, which were a significant part of the Christmas season. It draws on midwinter tales from across Britain and links them to European midwinter traditions.
