Tyisha, by Huw Alden Davies, Curated by Kathryn Campbell Dodd
About
A multidisciplinary exhibition exploring the story of Jac Ty-isha and the Rebecca Riots through photography, film and performance rooted in the Gwendraeth Valley.
Tyisha is a socially engaged arts project centred on Jac Ty-isha (Jack Hughes), a figure of the 1843 Rebecca Riots who was exiled to Tasmania after the Bolgoed toll gate incident. The exhibition presents photography, film, performance and creative technologies by Welsh and Wales-based artists alongside students from Carmarthen School of Art and community participants. It forms a collaborative archive of the Gwendraeth Valley, examining history, place, identity and belonging through a contemporary lens.
