About

Sedos stages Jessica Swale’s comedy about an orange seller who becomes one of the first women to perform professionally on the English stage.

Set after the reopening of England’s theatres in 1660, the play follows Nell from the playhouse to the court of Charles II as she negotiates performance, ambition and public identity. Emma J Leaver directs this Bridewell Theatre production. Sedos warns of strong language, sexual references, references to sex work and period misogyny and discriminatory attitudes.
