About
Puerto Rican artist Rafael Trelles reimagines Caliban as a figure of Indigenous resistance in a new series of paintings.
Trelles draws on The Tempest and Caribbean histories to reverse the colonial view of Caliban. Dreamlike paintings connect land, memory and identity, with the natural world presented as an active part of the figure’s story.
