About
Alex Long argues that Socrates’ method of hypotheses in the Phaedo reflects a principled way to take positions on philosophical questions.
Long’s published abstract interprets the Phaedo passage as a method for taking positions across many questions. He argues that calling these positions hypotheses does not signal uncertainty and that his reading helps resolve problems about the passage.
