Old Shire Hall Court, Cells and Dungeon Tour
About
A guided heritage tour of Old Shire Hall exploring its courts, holding cells and 17th-century dungeon and over 300 years of justice.
This guided tour covers more than 300 years of trials, judgements and imprisonments at Old Shire Hall. Visitors see the civil and criminal courts, the holding cells and the 17th-century dungeon, and hear how justice was handed down in the past. The tour begins outside the main doors on Northgate Street at 10am, with prompt arrival requested as latecomers cannot be accommodated once the group moves to the lower floors. It involves steep, uneven and narrow stairs and corridors and is for adults, not suitable for children under 12.
