Twilight Wildlife
About
An 18+ dusk wildlife walk with ecologist Tom Forward, using thermal imaging to observe wildlife as night falls.
Join ecologist and wildlife guide Tom Forward for a gentle 3.5 km dusk walk at Old Lodge Nature Reserve, using a thermal-imaging camera streamed to a tablet to observe wildlife as darkness falls. The 18 November 2026 walk focuses on autumn wildlife, including redwings and fieldfares returning to roost, tawny owls, snipe and woodcock; the 24 February 2027 walk focuses on winter wildlife, including flocks of redwings and fieldfares, tawny owls, snipe and woodcock. There is a small possibility of seeing hen harrier or short-eared owl. Both walks meet at Old Lodge Car Park about 10 minutes before the 15:00 start and run until 18:00. The 3.5 km route crosses uneven ground and can be steep; moderate fitness is required and the route is not wheelchair accessible. Attendees must be 18 or over. Parking charges apply. The November event offers a free shuttle from Lewes station at 14:00, which must be reserved at booking; the February listing says there is no public transport to the location. Warm clothing, a torch or head torch and wellies are essential.
