About
Folklorist Alessandra Curtis explores the history and emotional meaning of handmade military pin-stuck cushions from the First World War.
This Remembrance-season talk examines how soldiers’ gifts of heart-shaped cushions used pins, military insignia and other keepsakes to express remembrance and family bonds. Alessandra Curtis places these objects within the history of the Imperial War Graves Commission and Abney Park’s First World War burials.
